A typical session
For better and worse, there's no such thing as a typical session.
My role can be thought of has helping you to get to your psychological 'edges' - the areas that are new or unknown to you, and that are 'up' for you at the moment. How quickly we get there, and how quickly we work with those edges, is different for everyone. We collaborate in unfolding your process, aiming for a pace that doesn't feel like it's pushing you, but also doesn't leave you with a situation that's not serving you for longer than is necessary.
All sessions involve talking. If it's relevant to what you're working on, and your feedback is good, we might additionally use some role-play, movement work, meditation-like experiences, etc... it depends on what we're working on.
If you're working on a major life issue then perhaps we'll just slice off whatever chunk is relevant at the time, and work with that. There is generally a relationship between the size of an issue, and the length of time it takes to achieve change. Sometimes growth is quick, and sometimes it feels like nothing is happening for a while, before a sudden growth-spurt occurs.
The generally accepted wisdom in counselling circles is that most people need about six sessions to notice a significant change.
Some people have ad-hoc sessions, perhaps every month or so. Some people take the same time, every week.
